What is a birth doula?
Every Family Needs A Doula!
A birth doula is a nonmedical support companion who supports you during pregnancy, labor, and birth. Birth doulas are trained to provide continuous, one-on-one care, physical support, and emotional support during labor. Doulas also provide resources and support to families before or during birth, and into the postpartum period. There are many different types of doulas, along with many different types of training, certifications, traditional practices, and perspectives on doula care. Doula support has been proven by research to help increase positive birth outcomes for both mom and baby.

Every birthing person deserves someone in their corner who looks like them, listens to them, and refuses to leave their side. The Her Birth Story Project brings complete, professional birth doula care to a limited number of Black families each year — at no cost — as part of my commitment to changing the way Black birth is supported, seen, and celebrated.
