Every birthing person deserves someone in their corner who looks like them, listens to them, and refuses to leave their side.
The Her Birth Story Project brings complete, professional birth doula care to a limited number of Black families each year — at no cost — as part of my commitment to changing the way Black birth is supported, seen, and celebrated.
A limited number of families are welcomed into the program each year.
Why This Program Exists
The numbers are not an accident. Black birthing people in this country face higher rates of complication, of being unheard, of being rushed, dismissed, and harmed — regardless of income or education. Continuous doula support is one of the few things shown again and again to improve how births go and how cared-for families feel along the way.
Her Story Birth Project removes the cost barrier entirely for Black families in the Triangle and surrounding areas, pairing them with grounded, culturally-rooted doula care for the whole journey — and gently documenting that journey, so that Black birth is no longer invisible, but honored, witnessed, and woven into a story bigger than any one of us.

Spots are limited and welcomed by application, so we can give every selected family our fullest presence.
The Experience
When you’re welcomed into our community, you receive complete birth doula support from pregnancy through your early postpartum weeks — and the ability to contribute to the larger storytelling that impacts maternal health outcomes.
Your full doula care includes:
- Prenatal visits to build your birth preferences and prepare your mind and body
- On-call availability as you approach your due date (from around 37 weeks)
- Continuous, hands-on support through labor and delivery — wherever you choose to birth
- Immediate postpartum support in the first tender hours
- Postpartum follow-up visits
- Unlimited text and phone access to me throughout
- Early breastfeeding and feeding support
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Selected families receive complete doula support at no cost. The program is our investment in Black maternal health and in our community.
How does the doula care differ?
This is not a stripped-down version of our care. Selected families receive the same full presence, advocacy, and devotion as any client who walks through our door. The only thing different about it is that it’s a gift.
Will the photos and video be professional quality?
No — and we want to be upfront about that. They’re real, handheld, documentary-style moments, not professional birth photography. If you want professional images, you’re welcome to hire a photographer too.
What areas do you serve?
The Triangle (Raleigh–Durham–Chapel Hill) regions of North Carolina, including hospital, birth center, and home births.
What if I'm not selected this round?
